Brazilian Butt Lift, also known as BBL, is a popular plastic surgery that involves liposuction in donor area and transferring the harvested fat into the buttocks. The purpose of the surgery is to frame the shape and enhance the buttocks.
The donor areas are body parts that have excess fat tissue, such as abdomen, waist, or thighs. After liposuction these areas become slimmer and better contoured.
On the other hand, transferred fat increases buttock projection and at the same time improves the entire silhouette.
BBL is a sophisticated plastic surgery that relies on the fact that transferred fat needs blood supply and therefore it survives in its new location. About 60% of fat survives, so the overcorrection is done to account for the fat that will not survive.
There is only one type of BBL surgery, which includes 3 steps:
Generally, you can have this surgery if your buttocks are too small for your body frame or your buttocks appear too flat or square.
You may be a good candidate for BBL if you have lost the natural shape of your buttocks because of weight loss or aging.
You are a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt lift if you have enough fat deposits in body areas like the abdomen, hips, or thighs. These areas can be donor sites.
You should be in good health and keep healthy lifestyle habits. Also, you should be close to your ideal weight, because too much weight fluctuation after the surgery can compromise the final results.
BBL is a sophisticated plastic surgery that can significantly improve the appearance of the buttocks. It makes the buttocks appear more proportionate to the rest of the body.
After the surgery, the buttocks appear rounder, firmer, lifted and more youthful.
Buttocks augmentation with fat transfer lasts 2 to 3 hours or even longer
General anesthesia is usually used for the surgery.
Local anesthesia with IV sedation may be used in some cases.
Since BBL is an invasive surgery, it carries certain risks, including:
The results of BBL are long-lasting. The amount of fat that survives when transferred will stay in its location forever and won’t grow back again.
To maintain the results you should adapt healthy lifestyle like regular exercising and proper diet.
The price of BBL depends on the complexity and the length of the surgery.
Before the surgery, you need to have a thorough consultation with Dr. Dragana Spica.
Dr. Spica may require blood tests to determine if you are physically fit for the surgery.
Also, she will advise you to stop smoking and taking certain vitamins and supplements.
It’s important to arrange for someone to drive you home after the surgery.
On the day of your BBL you are prepped for the surgery and given anesthesia.
Dr. Dragana Spica makes small incisions in your donor area and uses liposuction to harvest the fat. The fat is then purified and injected into the buttocks. Dr. Spica closes the liposuction incisions with sutures and may place draining tube to help with elimination of fluids. You may also wear a compression garment.
When you feel comfortable, you are discharged from the surgical sites and given all the instructions for the recovery period.
BBL is not painful during the procedure. After the surgery you may experience moderate discomfort.
The recovery period is a bit longer.
You can leave the bed on the second day. You need to sleep on your stomach or side to avoid pressuring your buttocks. You won’t be allowed to sit for 10 days. After that you can sit on a soft pillow beneath your hamstrung muscles but not touching your buttocks. You should sit on this pillow for 8 weeks at least.
You need to wear a compression garment for 6 to 8 weeks.
You can return to your normal daily activities after 8 weeks.
You should pay attention to the presence of swelling, which should subside after 3 to 6 months.
Also, you need to keep the surgical site clean to prevent infection.
It’s important to have regular follow-up appointments with Dr. Dragana Spica. During the first follow-up, after 7 days, Dr. Spica will remove the drains.
Call Dr. Spica immediately if you experience severe pain or develop a fever.
