CO2 fractional laser

CO2 fractional laser treatment is designed to firm your skin, remove the scars, and rejuvenate your complexion. This treatment is a leader in anti-aging procedures and can significantly improve your skin in just one treatment session. CO2 fractional laser is an ablative laser that uses the latest technology to remove the top layer of your skin without significant side effects and shorter downtime.

What is the co2 fractional laser mechanism of action?

The CO2 fractional laser uses an advanced fractional system that targets only the skin with concerns and leaves the healthy skin tissue unharmed. Your skin regeneration starts in the areas of untreated tissue. The treatment minimally damages the tissue and it treats the tissue at a predetermined depth. That’s the reason why the recovery period is shortened to 5 to 7 days.

CO2 fractional laser emits light of a certain wavelength that allows the evaporation of microscopic areas of your skin and the heating of the deep structures in your skin. This thermal damage triggers the remodeling and production of new collagen and the formation of new and healthy cells. After the CO2 fractional laser treatment, your skin significantly improves its appearance.

Who is a good candidate for co2 fractional laser treatment?

You may be a good candidate for CO2 fractional laser treatment if you are bothered with superficial and deeper wrinkles and lines. Also if you have acne or other scars you might be a good candidate for this procedure. Finally, CO2 laser treatment can lift your saggy skin or make your skin texture more even and smooth.

On the other hand, you may not be a good candidate for CO2 fractional laser treatment if you are bothered with rosacea or broken capillaries. Also, if you suffer from certain autoimmune diseases or take blood-thinning medications you should avoid this treatment. Finally, if you have tanned skin you should wait for the tan to fade out before having this treatment.

What does co2 fractional laser treatment target?

CO2 fractional laser treatment is versatile and can achieve different aesthetic goals, including:

  • Firming and deep regeneration of your skin
  • Reduction of acne, surgical and trauma scars
  • Reduction of freckles and keratosis
  • Reduction of pigmentation
  • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Lifting saggy skin
  • Elimination of stretch marks

This treatment effectively treats areas like your face, neck, and decolletage. It can be used on all skin types but the technique of application might vary according to your specific skin concerns.
CO2 fractional laser treatment deeply firms your skin. It can do wonders with the elimination of wrinkles and fine lines, especially with medium-deep wrinkles. When used for treating acne scars, it achieves brilliant results after about 3 treatment sessions.

WHAT DOES THE CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER TREATMENT INCLUDE? +

Before your CO2 fractional laser treatment, you are first consulted with Dr. Dragana Spica. She examines your skin and skin concerns and asks you about your medical history and desired aesthetic goals. Then she creates a bespoke treatment plan that will address your specific skin issues.

Dr. Dragana may advise you on how to prepare for the treatment. Some of the recommendations include:

  • Drinking plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated 2 days before the treatment
  • Avoiding creams that dry out your skin
  • Avoiding mechanical and chemical peels a month before the treatment
  • Starting with antiviral therapy if you are prone to cold sores

On the day of your CO2 fractional laser treatment, Dr. Dragana Spica cleans your skin n and applies a topical numbing cream to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. She starts the treatment by applying a hand-held applicator to your targeted areas.

You may feel warm or hot pinches when Dr. Dragana emits the laser light on your skin. After the treatment, you might feel as if you had a sunburn for about 24 hours post-treatment.

WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE CONNECTED TO CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER TREATMENT? +

After the treatment, you experience redness and swelling. Redness lasts for a couple of days if you had only superficial treatment. If you had deeper treatment, redness may last for up to 2 weeks. You can apply ice packs to the treated areas to reduce swelling and feel more comfortable. Also, you can apply makeup to cover the redness.

Your skin will be dry and tight for about 2 days.

You will experience skin peeling. The old superficial layer of your skin will feel off to reveal healthy and bright new skin. The peeling usually starts after 3 days and lasts for 7 to 10 days.

IS THERE DOWNTIME AFTER CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER TREATMENT? +

In general, you should stay at home for 2 to 5 days and let your skin heal properly. Avoid social events for about 2 weeks.

To reduce the swelling you should sleep with your head slightly elevated. Avoid strenuous exercise for 2 days because sweat can increase redness and swelling. Avoid direct sun exposure to prevent unwanted pigmentation changes. After your skin has completely healed, you should continue to apply high SPF when going outside.

HOW MANY CO2 FRACTIONAL LASER TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY? +

Even though you can achieve significant improvements in your skin after just one treatment session, you can opt for more sessions to achieve the best results.

Generally, you can have 3 to 5 treatment sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart, for the best outcomes. Your collagen level gradually increases and provides you with natural-looking results. Your skin becomes smooth, bright, and rejuvenated. Also, with each treatment sessions, you get used to the treatment and tolerate it well. The side effects are significantly reduced and resolve more quickly.
